Why are Veneers so Popular?

When thinking about ways to make your smile brighter and healthier looking, doing research on the different procedures and treatments is very important. One of these is called veneers. Porcelain veneers have become the most popular way to improve the look of your smile. Veneers are simply porcelain laminates that are bonded to the surface of your teeth by using special dental cement.

It has been shown that with proper oral hygiene and protection from stressful biting forces, porcelain veneers can last 10 years or more. They are typically used to repair chipped teeth, whiten discolored teeth, even improve the look of misshapen teeth and fix gaps between them. Having veneers placed on your teeth requires very little tooth preparation and the look after the procedure is a natural looking and whiter smile.

It usually takes a few visits to the dentist to prep your teeth, place temporary veneers and have the final veneers created by a specially trained dental technician. While you are wearing the temporary veneers it allows you to get used to your new bite while you wait the couple of weeks for your final veneers to be completed.

Once you have your new smile, you treat your new veneers much like your natural teeth which means also avoiding extremes of temperatures, chewing ice and bones, biting fingernails, and using your teeth as tools. Any habit that can damage your natural teeth will damage your veneers. So taking care of your teeth should be important, and you should check with your dentist to make sure you are using the most effective oral hygiene regimen. Regular visits to your dentist will help ensure that your new smile will last for years to come.

Veneers not only help with the appearance of the teeth but they also help protect the health of the teeth. They also help with treating the thinning of the tooth’s enamel. But before doing the veneers, it is important to find out the reason for the thinning enamel. If the reason isn’t found and solved, veneers wouldn’t last as long as they could, especially if the thinning enamel is caused by acid reflux or an eating disorder such as bulimia.

Once the underlying issue is resolved, either by using special rinses, or in the case of grinding, a special teeth protector, your brilliant new smile will have better long term success. With the availability of this newer, easier, and more cost effective procedure, veneers will only grow in popularity as a way to give you a healthy smile.

I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
