Daly City enjoys the benefits of professional teeth whitening

Dr. Leo Arellano at Leo Arellano DDS PC Explaining benefits of professional teeth whitening

It is estimated that over ten million people in the United States collectively spend nearly two billion dollars for teeth whitening services and products annually. Teeth whitening is the most frequently requested cosmetic dental service available today for some very good reasons. A bright, white smile creates an impression of radiant health, vitality, youth, warmth, and happiness. This makes a terrific impression on those we meet, whether he or she is a boss, business associate, co-worker, friend, neighbor, or potential date.

Dental bonding or porcelain veneers are better options in some cases

The first step in determining whether a teeth whitening treatment is the right option is a dental consultation, examination, and possibly, x-rays. The cause of the staining, as well as the state of oral health are important factors when considering teeth whitening.

Decay, abscesses, and problems with root canals can cause discoloration that will not be corrected with a whitening treatment. Internal (intrinsic) staining caused by tooth injury or medication typically does not respond well to a whitening treatment either. In cases such as these, Dr. Arellano may recommend an alternative treatment for smile enhancement.

Professional supervision

Teeth whitening treatment from a dental professional involves carefully controlled use of hydrogen or carbamide peroxide, customized for each patient. If cavities, periodontal disease, or other dental issues exist, they may require treatment before whitening can begin. Additionally, it is recommended that the teeth be cleaned professionally before whitening, to ensure optimal results. Dr. Arellano offers both in-office and at-home whitening to meet the needs of his patients.

In-office whitening

The in-office whitening solution is the strongest, and precautions are taken to protect the gums and other soft tissues. A protective barrier is put on the gums, and the lips and surrounding areas are covered to prevent contact with the whitening agent. The gel is applied to the teeth and then rinsed off after 20 minutes. This cycle is typically repeated three times, and the teeth are several shades brighter in about an hour. This is a great option for patients who want to look their best in a hurry for an important event such as a reunion, business meeting, or wedding.

At-home whitening

For at-home whitening, impressions are taken and custom mouth trays are created. The patient is provided with trays, whitening gel, and detailed instructions on their use. This method can require several weeks to reach the desired results. This option is popular with patients because it is effective, affordable, and convenient.

Teeth whitening can make patients feel better about themselves and help them make terrific first impressions. The best benefit of all after teeth whitening is Dr. Arellano’s favorite. Because patients are so pleased with their whiter, brighter smile, they tend to take better care of their oral health with improved oral hygiene practices and regular dental care. I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
