Are There Alternatives To Porcelain Veneers?

Are There Alternatives To Porcelain Veneers?

When it comes to making over your entire smile, porcelain veneers are the way to go. Porcelain veneers are thin shells, bonded to the outer surfaces of your teeth to hide imperfections, to protect chipped and cracked teeth, and to make them look more attractive in length, shape, and uniformity.

But not everyone is a perfect candidate for porcelain veneers, so other alternatives may have to be considered. Dr. Arellano in San Francisco is experienced in many cosmetic dentistry techniques. He will discuss the other possibilities that may be appropriate for those patients who would like to use porcelain veneers to correct dental concerns but for whom veneers may not be the best choice.

Porcelain veneers are often used to improve the appearance of misaligned or crooked teeth. Dr. Arellano can adjust the shape, size, color, and spacing of your teeth by placing expertly crafted and fitted veneers. But for those who have significant over-crowding or bite problems, other alternatives such as orthodontics may be a better consideration. Two main options are available when it comes to orthodontics – traditional metal braces, or clear braces such as Invisalign. Both are sound and affordable alternatives to porcelain veneers for those situations.

Dental bonding can also be an effective substitute for porcelain veneers. Dental bonding involves the use of a composite resin which is applied to a damaged, misshapen, or misaligned tooth. This putty-like material is shaped to cover a cracked or injured tooth, improving the appearance and adding stability.

If you are considering porcelain veneers to remedy stained or discolored teeth, a simple in-office teeth whitening session may also do the trick. Teeth whitening procedures can brighten your teeth several shades whiter in one office visit – a great, economical way to improve your smile in a single day!

If you live in the San Francisco area and are considering porcelain veneers, call Dr. Arellano today. Schedule a consultation appointment to find out if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, or if you might consider one of the other options.

I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
