The fastest way to achieve a dramatic smile makeover

The fastest way to achieve a dramatic smile makeover

The only way a patient can ensure a satisfactory smile enhancement is clear communication with the dentist during the consultation and throughout treatment. It is important that a patient know exactly what their goals are and explain them fully to the dentist. A smile is viewed personally by a patient and technically by a dentist. While a patient is looking at a chip or misshapen tooth,; the dentist may be looking at midline or crown length.

Patients need to explain what they like and dislike about their smile and the changes they want to make, be they subtle or dramatic. The dentist needs to know whether the end goal is a so-called “Hollywood Smile” that is brilliant white and perfectly even in shape and alignment, or a more natural looking smile with subtle variations in color, shape, or shade.

Once the patient has fully explained their concerns and goals, the dentist conducts a dual phase comprehensive examination. First oral health must be confirmed, if there are dental issues, such as gingivitis or decay, they must be addressed before starting the cosmetic enhancement.

The second phase is the smile assessment, with a focus on the patient’s aesthetic requests. It must be determined if the patient has realistic expectations. With a detailed “wish list,’ the dentist can determine what treatment or combination of treatments can achieve the patient’s goals. Frequently porcelain veneers can address all of the flaws a patient sees in their smile.

Porcelain veneers can change the size, shape, color, and position (within reason) of a tooth. They are the second most popular treatment in cosmetic dentistry today, only surpassed by tooth whitening. The reason for this popularity is they are one of the most aesthetic methods of changing a smile, and they typically require just two visits to the dentist after the consultation. The porcelain’s glassy translucence and the way it refracts and reflects light mimics natural tooth enamel perfectly. In the hands of the right dentist, no one will be aware a beautiful smile is the result of dental work; it looks like the patient was blessed with a naturally stunning smile.

Dr. Leo Arellano and his elite dental team are responsible for many stunning smiles in San Francisco. Anyone wanting a new smile in as little as two weeks can schedule a consultation by calling 415-881-4343 or visiting the office at 3030 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, CA.

I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
