San Francisco dental crowns cost less than replacing lost teeth

Dental Crowns Cost from San Francisco dentist

Dental crowns are named appropriately because they serve a very noble purpose in dentistry. They are commonly used to strengthen and protect damaged or weakened teeth. Crowns restore function and beauty to teeth that might otherwise require extraction.

A crown is essentially a hollow artificial tooth that dentists use to cover a decayed, damaged, weakened, or misshapen tooth. The advances in dental technology have resulted in crowns with a more natural appearance and greater strength than ever before. A tooth covered with a crown looks, functions, and feels just like a natural tooth.

The cost of a dental crown varies widely, depending on the specific case, dental insurance, and the material chosen to create the restoration. However, saving a tooth is much more economical than extracting the tooth and replacing it with a partial denture, fixed bridge, or dental implant.

Dr. Leo Arellano and his team place dental crowns in-office rather than referring their patients to a prosthodontist. The process for receiving a crown is very simple and straightforward.

  • Local anesthetic is given to numb the area and ensure patient comfort.
  • The damaged or decayed portion of the structure is removed and then the tooth is shaped for secure placement of the crown.
  • Impressions of the prepared tooth, as well as the nearby and opposing teeth are taken. They are sent to a dental lab along with instructions from the doctor about the chosen material, color and other pertinent information.
  • An interim crown is placed over the tooth to protect it until the permanent crown is ready.
  • When the doctor receives the restoration, the patient returns to the office for placement. The interim crown is removed and the permanent one is checked for shape, color, and fit. Minor adjustments may be made by the doctor if needed.
  • The crown is cemented in place with great care. It is crucial that the crown meets the opposing tooth properly, so Dr. Arellano will check this detail thoroughly. If placement is not done with precision, it can lead to failure of the restoration.

I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
