Many factors affect the cost of dental crowns in San Francisco

Cost of Dental Crowns from San Francisco dentist

A common, and understandable, concern for dental patients is the cost of treatment. They would like to know what the potential price might be before visiting the dental office. Unfortunately, there are too many variables involved to get an accurate estimate without visiting a dentist. The location of the patient and doctor is just one factor affecting the cost. Dental crowns in San Francisco CA are not going to cost the same as they would in another city or state. Some of the factors that also affect cost are:

  • The training and experience of the dentist – A doctor fresh out of dental school may not charge as much as one with extensive advanced education. However, they also may not have the skills that are developed through experience.
  • Insurance – If the patient has dental insurance, it may reduce the cost to the patient if the crown is not for cosmetic purposes. Insurance varies dramatically, and the percentage of cost that will be covered depends on the insurance company and the patient’s specific policy.
  • Condition of the tooth – If the tooth requires minimal preparation the cost will be lower than it would be for a tooth that is too badly damaged to support a crown. In some cases, the dentist has to rebuild some missing tooth structure in order to place the crown.
  • Material – Crowns are made of many different materials:
    • Stainless steel
    • Porcelain fused to non-precious metal
    • Porcelain fused to precious metal
    • Gold
    • Pure porcelain

The type material agreed upon by the dentist and patient affects the total cost. The doctor may make a recommendation for a specific type that will make a better fitting, better looking or more durable restoration. An investment in dental care is an investment in oral and overall health as well as appearance. Bargain dental care is usually cheap for a reason, typically, the provider is inexperienced, the materials are sub-par, or a discount high-volume dental lab created the restoration. Rather than hunting for a bargain, patients are well served to seek value. Patients in San Francisco who visit Dr. Leo Arellano and his talented team are rewarded with quality dental care, a reasonable price, a healthy mouth, and a beautiful smile. I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
