How to choose the best dentist in San Francisco for your dental implant procedure

Best-implant-dentist-san-francisco

In our grandparents’ day, a set of dentures was a coveted permanent fix for advanced gum disease or a strand of missing teeth. Dentures have a downside, however: they can be ill fitting, uncomfortable, and a hassle to maintain using denture adhesive powders and creams.

A better choice is dental implants, which have been used by dental professionals for half a century. At Leo Arellano, DDS, General and Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Arellano has been creating new smiles with dental implants for more than 34 years, and has thousands of satisfied patients throughout the San Francisco area. He is also a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dental implants can replace one, or several, teeth, which make them a conservative option over full dentures, particularly if you do not medically need to have all of your teeth removed. Since they are a minimally invasive procedure, implants are considered healthier for your gums and bone.

If you are considering dental implants, the first step is to select a dentist with the qualifications and experience to meet your expectations. This is best done by scheduling a dental implant consultation. In preparing for your consultation, here are some key questions you may want to ask:

  • Do I have enough bone structure to support the implants?
Patients with advanced gum disease may not be optimal candidates for dental implants if there is insufficient bone tissue. Other options for reconstructive dentistry may need to be explored.
  • How long will treatment take?
The dental implant process starts by taking x-rays or impressions of the teeth and jaw that will be used as guides to fabricate the custom implants and place them during the surgical process. For an implant procedure, local anesthetic to numb the area is all that’s needed. Small screws are inserted into the jawbone based on the x-rays and models of the teeth. The entire process takes around four months for compete healing as the implants take the place of tooth roots and anchor into the jawbone.

  • How many implants have you performed?
The decision to have dental implants is a life-altering decision. Our teeth are a framework that give shape to our face, illuminate our smile, and help us speak and chew properly. However, ensuring a set of crowning white teeth relies on a skilled dentist. Dental implant work is an art form that is mastered over years of experience.
  • Can I review before/after photos of other patients?
A picture is worth a thousand words and speaks most clearly about the proficiency level of your dentist.

Also, before your appointment check out rating sites such as Yelp, Angie’s List and Reviews MD to get unbiased patient commentary on a particular doctor’s work.

In addition, assess the office atmosphere. Make sure the environment is soothing and the staff is friendly, patient, and attentive, taking your needs and concerns into full consideration.

Dental implants are an important life investment. Make sure you have the information you need to make the best decision and have full confidence in your dentist of choice. For more information about the expert dental services of Dr. Leo Arellano, please call 415-881-4343.

I've been going to Dr. Arellano for about 20 years and I continue because of the excellent care and treatment I get with him and his whole office team. He is both professional and personable.
Recently I had a newer technique of gum surgery/grafting at his office called, "Pinhole Surgical Technique of gum grafting." I personally found this to be much easier to handle than the other style of gum grafting that I received years ago for the other side of my mouth. That worked, it was where part of my roof of my mouth was cut and surgically sewn onto the gum. However, I much prefer the pinhole technique. It was actually the easiest dental work I've had (beyond regular cleaning.) It didn't take too long and it didn't feel uncomfortable getting it done. I was swollen, but I think that happens regardless of what kind of gum grafting is done. I needed ibuprofin for a few days, no major pain. It healed well and just felt easy. I am not a fan of having any work done in my mouth because that's me, but this was the easiest work I've ever had done.
So, if you are debating which kind of surgery to do I personally would recommend the pinhole surgery.

We've gone to Dr Arellano for many years and have never been disappointed with any of the work he's done. Recently my husband broke a tooth and Leo got him in and had the tooth repaired within a few short hours. Service like that is very hard to finds these days. His office staff is fantastic. Nice people you are always glad to see. I would highly recommend Dr Arellano to anyone who is searching for an honest, competent, well trained dentist.
